Oldroyd Xv Clear. Cavity Drainage Membrane for use on Interior Floors and Walls

Oldroyd Xv Clear is a semi-transparent, studded cavity drainage membrane manufactured from polypropylene. It is specifically designed for application to damp / contaminated internal floors and walls , and is particularly useful in basement waterproofing / conversion applications. It is highly suited to waterproofing Victorian basements as it does not rely on the soundness of the underlying substrate for its effectiveness.

Oldroyd Xv Clear is applied to walls and ceilings by means of special sealed fixing plugs (Oldroyd Brick Plugs), while on floors, there is normally no need for any form of fixing. The semi-transparent nature of Oldroyd Xv Clear makes it easy to locate suitable fixing points (e.g. avoiding soft mortar beds).

Oldroyd Xv Clear can be covered with plasterboard, dry lining, screed, or a floating timber floor. When used as a basement waterproofing system, Oldroyd Xv Clear should be used in conjunction with the Aquadrain perimeter drainage system and the Submarine Sump System .

The Oldroyd range of Cavity Drainage Membranes, are manufactured in Norway under an ISO9001 / 14001 quality and environmental management system. They are produced from high-strength polypropylene using a special, temperature-controlled manufacturing process. This results in an exceptionally straight, tough membrane which does not suffer from the "banana-ing" and "rucking" which cause problems when installing other cavity drainage membranes. Oldroyd Xv Clear is British Board of Agrement (BBA) approved and available in 2.08 x 20m (41.6m 2 ) rolls.

The Safeguard Submarine™ Sump System

The Submarine Sump System has been designed to compliment the Oldroyd Xv studded membrane waterproofing system for waterproofing underground structures and the Aquadrain perimeter drainage system .

When it is known or anticipated that free water will be present behind the Oldroyd Xv membrane, the installation design should incorporate adequate provision for its disposal. This will normally require the installation of one or more sump pumps.

The Safeguard Submarine sump system has been designed and developed specifically for use in conjunction with cavity drainage membrane systems in basement waterproofing applications . It was developed by Safeguard in conjunction with pumping solutions specialists, TT Pumps .

The standard system comprises of a specially designed sump chamber complete with double-sealed manhole cover, 240V Goliath sump pump, 12V battery back-up pump¹, and a high-level alarm incorporating a single float switch. Versions are also available with higher capacity pumps. Benefits include:

  • Tough
The pump chamber is well engineered and manufactured in strong, impact resistant polyethylene. Double-seal access cover suitable for pedestrian loading.
  • Simple to install
Pre-formed inlet/outlet holes to directly connect drainage channel and discharge pipe. Pump can easily be disconnected for cleaning and maintenance.
  • High Flow Rate
50mm diameter internal pipework allows maximum flow rate from pump. 160 litre per minute flow rate (based on 2m head of water).
  • Hygienic
Smooth internal walls aid the hygienic disposal of groundwater for the avoidance of smells and septicity.
  • High Capacity
    Extra large 100-litre capacity chamber.

Cementitious Waterproofing Slurries (Vandex system)

The Vandex Basement Waterproofing System - is a multi-coat waterproofing system that is both durable and versatile. The main coating material, Vandex BB75 , is a cement-based powder which is mixed with water and applied to walls, floors, and ceilings by spray or trowel. It sets to form a bond with the masonry substrate, creating an impervious barrier to the movement of water.

A sand-cement render is applied to the walls and a bottle cove formed at the wall-floor junction. Two coats of Vandex BB75 are then applied to the walls and floor. Finally, a screed is applied to the floor and a suitable plaster is applied to the walls.
