February 1998 LOCAL FIRM HITS QUALITY JACKPOT
Local firm The RTC Group who specialise in Damp-Proofing, Timber Preservation, Remedial Cavity Wall Ties and Building Maintenance have recently become members of the British Wood Preserving and Damp-Proofing Association (BWPDA) and the Quality Guild.
The BWPDA is an independent scientific and advisory organisation specialising in the technology of damp control and timber preservation, and is the UK 's foremost authority. Of around 3000 UK companies involved in the remedial industry, less than 200 have gained BWPDA membership, so RTC joins an elite club.
Some Building Societies and lending institutions will only recommend companies who are members of the BWPDA to carry out surveys and work on their behalf. BBC TV's WATCH DOG programme recently recommended that if remedial damp-proofing or timber treatments were to be carried out, a company who is a member of the BWPDA should be used.
Due to recent changes in criteria, companies who wish to become members of the BWPDA must ensure all their surveyors are fully qualified (CTIS, CRDS and CSRT), a criteria which RTC has met for some time and which no other company on the Fylde Coast can boast.
The Quality Guild is an association of quality-assessed businesses and organisations. Its main objective is to provide a register of quality assessed businesses operating under strict guidelines and standards developed by Quality Guild and their ultimate aim is to safeguard the interests of consumers, whether they are businesses, organisations or members of the general public.
Members of the Quality Guild have to be checked, assessed and satisfy the stringent criteria for certification. Membership has been recognised as an alternative to ISO 9000 for small and medium sized businesses.
RTC is among the first 20 companies in Lancashire to be awarded full Quality Guild membership. Brian Thorley the General Manager of Quality Guild says – “I was impressed with the level of professionalism that RTC apply to their work. Their speed of response and the way that they quickly implemented any recommended changes to their systems and procedures is particularly gratifying. This is a company that will go a long way and deserves to be successful.”
Just recently the Quality Guild has been getting increased media attention following the ‘World In Action Cowboy Builders' programmes and has been working closely with the Trading Standards Office to try and expose and eliminate cowboys in all areas of business.
Andrew Bradshaw, a partner with RTC says – “Since becoming Quality Guild & BWPDA members I feel we have improved our overall level of service and strengthened our quality structure. We now place greater emphasis on training and investment in our younger members of staff, which is no doubt the backbone of any successful company. Our association with these two leading organisations is further proof of our commitment to Quality, Competence and Service."
